Erin Riseing, Naturopathic Doctor | ||
I went to University in Ottawa, obtaining my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology, while working as an organic gardener. Through cultural anthropology I fell in love with the open-mindedness that comes from exploring other cultures and ways of living. I was fascinated by the storytelling, food, plant medicine, agriculture and food systems, and health patterns. After completing my degree I travelled for three months in Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.
At this point in my life I decided I wanted to pursue naturopathic medicine. I wanted to be able to continue teaching, specifically about health, nutrition, life skills like healthy cooking and using plant medicines. I completed the four-year program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.
After I completed my studies in naturopathic medicine, I travelled to Central America to volunteer for an international health brigade called Natural Doctors International (NDI). NDI provides free medical services to underserved communities in Nicaragua with volunteer medical rotations for licensed naturopathic physicians and natural health care practitioners. They work in challenging conditions with limited resources. I am passionate about empowering people to heal and change their life. I treat illness, prevent disease, and promote overall wellness using effective natural treatments such as herbal medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture, nutrition, hydrotherapy, and bodywork. My aim is to treat the root cause of illness and facilitate the body's natural healing mechanisms. I believe that illness is a message from the body, an opportunity to address the fundamental cause of disharmony in order to truly heal. My areas of interest include women's health, detoxification, fertility, food allergies and sensitivities, children's health, autoimmune conditions and digestive disorders.
